Canadian Family Pharmacy is located across the street from the historic Spoetzl Brewery at the corner of Highway 95 and Avenue B. Historic Shiner is only 80 miles from Austin and just over 100 miles from San Antonio or Houston … we’re 20 miles south of IH-10 at the intersection of Texas Highways 90A and 95.
Carolyn Hilscher, Pharmacist / Owner
A 1985 graduate of the University of Houston School of Pharmacy, Carolyn Hilscher brought years of specialized pharmacy experience to Shiner when she and her husband purchased “Williford Drugs” in 1994. In 1998, Canadian Family Pharmacy (our new name) was named Exemplary by Drug Topics magazine for exceptional pharmacy and non-pharmacy services.
Mrs. Hilscher has made some innovative changes to the pharmacy since she arrived — changes that have helped the community’s health, such as a counseling area and a diabetic center. She is certified in Women’s Health, Diabetes Care, and Compounding.
Working with doctors in Shiner and the surrounding communities, she also reaches out with her informative radio spots. Mrs. Hilscher is a past president of the American College of Apothecaries, serves on the Board of Directors of the Shiner Chamber of Commerce, is a lifetime member of the Houston Alumni Association, and, in 1992-1993, was president of the Pharmacy Alumni Association. In 1999, she was nominated for the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame in Austin.
